What will I be doing in this role?

As a PAT Tester, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring electrical safety across a range of commercial properties. You’ll be responsible for:

Conducting Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) on electrical appliances and equipment in line with industry regulations and company standards
Ensuring all appliances are tested thoroughly, with accurate labelling and clear identification of pass/fail status
Maintaining detailed and accurate records of testing results, including equipment condition and any remedial actions taken
Identifying, reporting, and escalating any electrical hazards or faults discovered during testing
Providing clear and professional advice to clients on the ongoing maintenance, usage, and safety of electrical appliances
Managing your daily workload efficiently to meet deadlines and customer expectations
Representing the company in a professional manner while on client sites
This role involves travel to various commercial locations, so flexibility and a customer-focused approach are key.

What do I need to be successful in the role?

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

A City & Guilds 2377 qualification in Portable Appliance Testing (or equivalent recognised certification)
A good understanding of current electrical safety standards and regulations
Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records
Good communication skills and the confidence to advise clients on safety and compliance matters
The ability to work independently, manage your time effectively, and use initiative
A full UK driving licence (as travel to various sites will be required)

A day in the life of a PAT Tester at phs:

Traveling to customer sites to carry out Portable Appliance testing.

Your role will involve refurbishment projects as well as planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring all work is completed to a high standard. With minimal supervision, you will be expected to assess repair solutions, complete projects efficiently, and conduct self-checks to ensure quality work.

Safety and compliance are key responsibilities in this role. You will need to conduct ongoing risk assessments, ensure all Health & Safety documentation (RAMS) is in place before starting tasks, and stay up to date with industry changes through regular training. Attending team briefs, Toolbox Talks, and technical bulletins will be essential for your professional development. You will also be required to escort deliveries and associated trades when needed.

Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential. You will work closely with colleagues, liaise with customers and supply chain members, and help mentor apprentices as required. You will also maintain van stock, contribute to improving right-first-time fixes, and use both electronic and paper-based systems to accurately record job details and materials used.

What You'll Bring:
To be successful in this role, you must have a full UK driving licence and previous experience in multi-trade work or construction. The ability to follow written and verbal instructions, work in all weather conditions, and use hand tools effectively is essential. British National status and the ability to obtain and maintain Security Clearance (SC level) are also required due to the nature of the work.
